As an Egyptian conflict zone video journalist, filmmaker, and photographer, I dedicate my craft to uncovering the stories that shape our world. With a passion for portraying humanity in the midst of turmoil, I strive to illuminate the realities faced by those in conflict, weaving narratives that resonate across borders and bring awareness to the forgotten voices of our time.
The journey across MENA region
Born on March 17, in the tranquil city of El-Khatahtba, Egypt, Ahmed Elsheemy has become a prominent international television journalist, war photographer, and documentary filmmaker.With a career spanning over a decade, his lens has captured moments of profound historic significance across the Middle East and North Africa.Growing up in the small village of El-Giyar, Ahmed was the only son of his family, nurtured by a father who was an agricultural engineer and two sisters—one a doctor of environmental research and the other a tour guide.Ahmed earned a Bachelor’s degree in Media and Communication Arts from October 6 University, leading his class with distinction.Under the mentorship of esteemed figures like radio pioneer Mahmoud Sultan and filmmaker Ali Badre Khan, he honed his skills in journalism and cinematography, laying a solid foundation for his future endeavors.
From 2009 to 2012, Ahmed made his mark as a journalist with Reuters, followed by a brief period at the Turkish Anadolu Agency, which he left over editorial differences.
His career took a significant turn in 2014 when he joined Fuji Television as a Middle East correspondent, covering 16 nations and earning recognition for his on-the-ground reports.
The following year, he transitioned to the Associated Press as the Director of Global Production Services in Cairo, a post he held until 2019 before stepping into the role of media consultant for various UN organizations.
His exceptional work earned him the prestigious award for Best Coverage of a News Event from Reuters in 2011 for his reporting on the Egyptian revolution. In 2014, he received a commendation from the Egyptian Photojournalism Competition, along with multiple certificates of excellence, including recognition from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in December 2021.
In addition to his journalistic endeavors, Ahmed has ventured into documentary filmmaking. His notable work, *Friends of Danger* (2019-2020), serves as an engaging narrative that explores the intricate connections among the film’s protagonists and their wild companions, all captured through his skilled cinematography.
